101C.8 / CHAPTER 8 OF 13

Marketing, supported demand & early surges

Who is bringing buyers—and who is funding the buying?

Promotion is not the same as demand

Community activity, paid boosts, KOL posts, raids, partnerships, and product launches can attract attention. They do not establish independent token buying. A real partnership also needs an authentic source and an exact-token connection, not a shared name.

A creator may fund promotion or buying. That can sustain a market temporarily, but dependency matters: if the funding stops, other participation may not replace it. Supported demand is a description of a funding relationship, not automatically abuse.

How to investigate a first-30-minute surge

A sharp rise without a verified outside catalyst is a reason to inspect buyers, not proof the dev bought its own float. Thin depth, unrelated bots, speculation, discovery feeds, or an unobserved event are alternatives.

  1. Mark the actual surge window; inspect the largest purchases and liquidity changes in the exact pool.
  2. Open the receiving owner addresses where identifiable. Compare freshness, common private funding, near-equal allocations, timing, and supported creator links. A router sender is not the buyer's identity.
  3. Look for repeated buying from the supported group and whether other observed buyers continue once it stops. Use equal windows and comparable pool coverage.
  4. Follow later sales and transfers. Did related wallets reduce inventory into incoming buying? A price decline alone does not establish that.
  5. Check dated primary sources and disclosure for the claimed catalyst or promotion. No news in a sampled feed does not establish that none exists.

What retail may not see

Undisclosed promotional arrangements, private payments, pooled custody, and unobserved wallets can hide incentives. A KOL's buy can be small relative to its previous sales or transferred-in inventory. Views, posts, and holder addresses are not equivalent to independent buyers.

Practical case — illustrative

Most surge buying comes from fresh wallets funded by one private address. Direct supported transfers link that funder to the creator; related wallets later execute sales into new buying. This supports investigating creator-related coordination. If the only evidence is shared exchange funding and same-block buys, attribution remains unresolved.

What does the result mean?

Separate the story source, paid promotion evidence, observed buying, inventory sales, and price response. If demand depends on a group, monitor whether it persists without that group. Do not treat a stronger promotional campaign as a substitute for supply hygiene.

Check your understanding — answered

No catalyst and price doubles: dev pump? Not established. A famous buyer posts a green buy: accumulation? Reconcile size, earlier sales, transferred inventory, and remaining units. Many posts: many buyers? Different measurements.

Illustrations teach mechanisms; they are not live token assessments. Inspect can orient sampled trades; wallet attribution and control checks may require external evidence.
